Believe it or not, you can make money copywriting using Fiverr.
I know copywriters cringe at the thought of using a freelance site of this nature, but there is gold in those hills.
Especially when you’re starting, you want to grab any experience you can to get started, so why not give it a try, right?
Well, hold your horses for a second. Because to bring home some decent money, you’re going to need some schooling. You don’t want to write like a madman or madwoman to make a mere $5.00 per contract, do you?
I didn’t think so.
So, in this post, I’ll show you the fastest way to start making money writing for Fiverr.
And the best part?
You can be an absolute beginner at copywriting and still make money.
Let’s get started…
Fiverr? Did You Misspell It?
No, I didn’t misspell anything; that’s the way you spell it. F-I-V-E-R-R. (Of course, it means $5.)
Fiverr is what is a two-sided platform that people can use to sell or buy their services.
Almost all of the services on Fiverr can be received or delivered digitally.
And you can make money with your services from almost anywhere on the planet.
I started using Fiverr years ago, and at that time, all you could charge or buy digital services for was $5. However, the company (based in Israel) now allows you to charge as much as you want for your services.
What Kind of Writing Can You Do on Fiverr?
As I mentioned earlier, you can sell all kinds of digital services on Fiverr and there are all kinds of different services a copywriter can provide.
As of this writing, over 49,000 writers are selling their wares on Fiverr.
Tip: It helps if you write in a specialized field, like health, beauty, or finance. I even saw a vendor selling blog posts based only on motorcycles.
Here are some different ideas on what you could sell there:
Common Copywriting Services
- Blog posts
- Sales letters
- Direct mail pieces
- Magazine Articles
- Speeches
- Reports
- eBooks
More Specialized Copywriting Services
- Whitepapers
- Resumes
- Cover letters
- Technical writing
- Podcast writing
- Grant writing
Extremely Specialized Copywriting Services
- UX writing
- eLearning writing
- Instructional design writing
- Legal writing
- Public relations releases
- Research Summaries
Weird Copywriting Services
- Roleplaying
- Messages in a bottle
- Mean letters to your ex-wife or girlfriend
- Amazon appeal letters
- Personalized anime story
- Poems for your pet
So, as you can see, you can write all kinds of stuff and you are only limited by your imagination.
Tip: The best way to decide on what you want to write about is to look at the different kinds of categories for writers.
Getting Started Fast on Fiverr
I am sure you want to know how to get started and make money copywriting using Fiverr. So, without wasting any of your time, let’s get right into it.
Selling services on Fiverr is pretty simple, but it will take a little setup time.
Just like any other site, you will need to sign up for your account.
It only takes a few minutes to get one, and Fiverr is very good at guiding you through the process.
Once you have done that, you need to create your first “gig” or offer to write for anyone who will hire you. Fiverr, has made a simple template for you to fill in announcing your gig or offer.
The template looks like this:
I will __________.
You will then fill in the blanks with your gig.
I will write a high-converting sales letter for you.
Or…
I will write a 10,000 word eBook for you.
Or…
I will write an SEO blog post for your blog.
Tip: I’m a big believer in swiping ideas. You should look at other people in your niche to see how they are setting up their gigs. What kind of words are they using? How is their pricing set up? What kind of pictures are they using. The great thing about Fiverr is you can look at what the top sellers are doing and swipe ideas from them.
There are other things that you’ll need to do in order to set up a gig on Fiverr. (Keep reading and I’ll get you through the entire process.)
Deciding What You Will Specialize In On Fiverr
You need to decide on what your specialization is in copywriting on Fiverr. If you read the first part of this again, you’ll see I listed quite a few categories for you to choose from.
However, those were only suggestions.
There are many, many more categories and specializations you could write for.
Tip: Explore as many of the popular gigs as you can. Don’t just look at writing jobs, but find out if other niches are popular that you haven’t considered yet. A good idea is to find a category that you have an interest in.
For example, photography is an enormous niche that you may like and have some experience in. You could see if there is a way you can tie your copywriting skills into that. Perhaps you could write for photography blogs.
Then your Fiverr offer could look something like this:
I will write a 500 word SEO blog post for your photography blog.
Or something like that.
Make Money Copywriting On Fiverr With a Good Profile
Once you’ve signed up to Fiverr and decided what you’re going to specialize in, you’ll need to set up your profile. I spent a lot of time setting mine up because I wanted to make sure I made a good impression on anyone perusing my profile.
Tip: You can worry about this sort of thing for hours, days, weeks, etc. Look, you can always update your profile over time. My advice is that you need to get moving. So, put an hour or two into it initially and get your business out there.
As the days and weeks go by, put some time into updating it.
On the front-end you should at least:
- Fill out all information completely
- Take a photograph of yourself
- Talk about yourself and your experience
Tip: Again, look at what other people are doing. Read blog posts on how to turn yourself into a mavin or expert, take a picture of yourself in front of an audience or next to an overhead projector.
Additional Setups to Make Money Copywriting Using Fiverr
Fiverr will ask you to fill out a form for tax purposes. If you do not fill this out, they will pause all of your gigs. They figure if you go through opening an account, making a profile, and then set up gigs, you’ll also give them your tax info.
They may ask you to take an English language quiz. It isn’t mandatory, but it will show that you have a good enough mastery of the English language to do the work if you get a contract.
Setting up Your First Gig on Fiverr
The introductory seller package on Fiverr gives you the following options:
- 7 active gigs
- 5 gig multiples
- 2 gig extras
- The ability to send custom offers (up to $20,000 each)
- Get your money out after 14 days
When you create gigs on Fiverr, you can offer to do more than one kind of service. However, if you’re specializing, as I recommended earlier, there’s a trick you can try. Make different gigs but offer the same services.
So, if you make a gig for writing an eBook, make another one with different words, pictures, and even different pricing. That way, if you don’t hook them using one way, you can get them another way.
See?
This will give your service more chances of being found and if you find that one of the gigs you created attracts more people you can use it again and again to get more clients.
Fiverr will take you through the entire process of filling out your gig information. It can get tedious, but do all of it and take the time to set it up properly. There’s a lot of competition on Fiverr and you’ll have to make yourself stand out as well as possible.
Extra Tips for Getting Gigs on Fiverr
I won’t lie to you. There is a lot of work to be done in order to start making some decent money on Fiverr.
Here are some tips on how to get that done:
- As I’ve already mentioned, swipe ideas from some of the heavy hitters who are making good money on Fiverr. Don’t copy, but take their descriptions, tags, etc. and try to make them better.
- Try to use relevant keywords in your title, description, and tags. You can use Google’s Keyword Planner or another free one like SEOBook’s Keyword Research Tool.
- Use 5 keywords and try not to repeat them.
- Fiverr has apps that you can install on your cell phone. Use them. Customer service on your end is very important. The apps will alert you when a client or customer messages you.
- Answer messages ASAP. Don’t make your clients think you don’t care. Make them think that they are royalty and they will feel comfortable with you and contract you over and over again.
- You can use video, but it’s not important. Most people who contract you don’t have the time to watch video presentations. If you are selling copywriting services that are directly related to video, you can make one, but overall, it’s not important.
- Speaking of samples, you should have writing samples ready so that you can show prospects that you can actually write in your chosen niche. Just common sense, really.
- Wow your clients by OVER-DELIVERING. Set yourself above the rest of the pack. I use eBooks I have written in the past. One of my books is over 200 pages long and my clients are blown away when I give them a couple of them. (I doubt if they even read them, but they do seem astonished when I send them copies.)
- Oh, before I forget…Get and use testimonials as much as you can. Very important! Testimonials make you stand well above the pack. Tip: Tell your clients, after you have delivered incredible copy and services to them, that you’ll write the testimonial for them if they don’t have the time to do it themselves. Even the best clients don’t have the time to write a good testimonial but they will be happy to post one you’ve written for them. You’ll get testimonials a lot faster.
Conclusion on How to Make Money Copywriting on Fiverr
I hope that this post has enlightened you to get started in copywriting by using Fiverr.
But wait!
I like Fiverr for helping copywriters get their feet wet and acquiring their first clients. It’s great for that sort of thing. However, you may eventually want to move outside of Fiverr someday.
I highly recommend it moving out of it. I started with Fiverr and moved on to greener (the color of money) pastures.
And the thing that did it for me was Carol Tice and her Freelance Writer’s Den. That is the only resource I used to learn how to get good-paying clients.
She has so much information on how to get clients and run your copywriting business, it would blow your mind.
I wish you the best on your quest to becoming a paid copywriter. Please leave a comment below, it will really make my day.
